A GIFT OF CUDDLES AND COMFORT
A favourite activity of Quota Carindale’s is raising funds that enable foster children to visit the ‘Build-a-Bear’ workshop and create their own cuddly friend who will see them through thick and thin.
Where your money goes
We work in conjunction with Family Service Groups who foster children all over Brisbane. Our social workers report that the Build-a-Bear workshops are a very heart-warming activity for foster children.
Think about who you’re helping
These children are often taken from home in very frightening circumstances and everything is left behind. These bears become very special to the children.
The workshops
The event begins with the children choosing their bear. Each child is given a red satin heart, which they kiss and whisper to before it’s sewn into the bear. The children then receive a certificate showing the bear’s name (which they choose) and the bear is dressed in an outfit of their choice.
This is a very, very special bear who is placed into his or her own special box for the journey home with its maker.
For a foster child to be given their own permanent source of cuddles and comfort – which they made with their own two hands – is a wonderful gift. The bear becomes their confidante, lending a sympathetic ear in the good times and bad.
